On Thursday, 7 August 2025, the Department of Textile Engineering successfully organized an Industrial Visit to Fakhruddin Textiles Mills Ltd. (FTML), Mawna, Gazipur — a sister concern of Urmi Group. FTML exports a wide range of ready-made garments, including T-shirts, polo shirts, tank tops, and pants, as well as ladies’ jackets, joggers, and children’s wear. The company is a pioneer in synthetic fabric dyeing and holds certifications such as ISO, SRM SA, BSCI, GOTS, OCS, and GRS.

A total of 18 students from the 223 batch, accompanied by two faculty members of the Department of Textile Engineering — Ms. Faijun Farin and Ms. Nusrat Jahan Mousumi — participated in the visit.

The journey commenced from the university campus at 8:15 a.m., and we arrived at FTML at approximately 11:25 a.m. Upon arrival, the management warmly welcomed us with an introductory speech and refreshments. The students were then divided into two groups, each led by an assigned supervisor, and visited all major departments of the factory, including:

  • Fabric Batching Section

  • Dyeing

  • Testing Laboratory

  • Fabric Spreading & Cutting

  • Sewing

  • Embroidery

  • Garments Finishing

  • Storage Section

The students were particularly fascinated by the automated spreading and cutting machines, the well-organized testing laboratory, and the fully automated embroidery machines. They documented their observations in notebooks and later shared reflections with the faculty members. The visit concluded at 2:15 p.m. with a warm farewell from the FTML team.

The university’s logistics section provided transportation, and adequate arrangements were made for the trip. Lunch was served to all participants, funded by the Departmental Fund of the Green University of Bangladesh. We returned to campus at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Overall, the visit proved to be a highly beneficial and enriching experience for the students, providing them with valuable insights into the practical aspects of their field of study. Some glimpses of the mill visit are attached below.
